Description
"TREE MAN" by YURI TOMASHEVI
This shot was taken in Silicon Valley, California, USA.
I walked around a Camperdown Elm tree and from a certain viewpoint, a part of this tree looked like a powerful man... It was early spring and there were no leaves on the tree ... but a tree trunk and thickest branches were covered by moss ... and this "Tree man" was a "Green tree man"...
Elms are deciduous and semi-deciduous trees comprising the genus Ulmus in the plant family Ulmaceae.
Camperdown Elm tree has a magnificent structure and is a very rare tree. It is unique in that it cannot reproduce by itself. People love this tree unusual majestic cascading form and the touch of elegance it lends to the landscape. In winter or early spring, a bold and twisted branch structure is displayed.
The Story
In 1835 David Taylor discovered a contorted branch of an elm tree growing in the forest at Camperdown House in Dundee Scotland. Taylor was the head forester to the Earl of Camperdown. He replanted the young tree within the gardens of Camperdown House where it still remains to this day. The original tree is less than 9 feet tall with a lovely weeping habit and unusual contorted structure. He created the Camperdown Elm by grafting it to the trunk of the Wych elm. Every Camperdown Elm today originates from that mutant cutting found so long ago in Scotland.
You could see a full Camperdown Elm tree on my other image "Camperdown Elm tree".
